The incident happened on Jesmond Road at 3.50am, the early hours of Saturday, June 26, when a 23-year-old North Tyneside man was travelling in what is believed to be a black taxi going towards Newcastle with a male friend.

The taxi has stopped and one passenger got safely out. Moments later the other man has apparently fallen out of the moving taxi near the Swallow Hotel and sustained serious head injuries when he fell.

The injured man was taken to Newcastle General Hospital where he is receiving treatment.  His condition is described critical with life threatening head injuries. Jesmond Road was closed for a short time to enable police to investigate the scene.
