NFM: Sound & Vision filmmaker announced

Northern Film & Media are pleased to announce the winner of the filmmaker and final section of the Sound & Vision scheme as Villing Chong.

Sound & Vision is a unique collaboration between Northern Film & Media and Generator, bringing together musicians, music producers and filmmakers in the North East.

The scheme worked in three stages with the initial selection of a band acting as a starting point. The successful band were Teessiders Jimmy & the Sounds with their song ‘Sounds’ which was chosen by online voters.

Artists were then invited to submit remixes of ‘Sounds’, with DJ Franco Philippe, AKA Alex Hindle, emerging victorious with his ‘College Kids’ Springbreak’ remix.

Villing will now finish the final stage of the scheme by producing an industry standard music video for the artists. She will be mentored through the process by Dick Carruthers, a leading music filmmaker who has directed and produced live concert DVDs for some of the biggest artists, including Oasis, The Rolling Stones and Alicia Keys.

Villing beat of stiff competition for her concept, which greatly impressed Dick and the artist. Carole Machin, Creative Industry Co-ordinator at Northern Film & Media, “The standard of applications for the scheme were extremely high and the amount of hard work employed by the applicants really impressed us. Villing stood out for her concept which really struck a cord with the band and Dick. Her ideas easily jumped off the page and we are very excited about collaborating with such talent”.

Work will begin on the video soon, with a screening of the final piece planned for October.
